Boston Bridge Overview Program - Boston, MA

BSC Group works with the City of Boston Public Works Department (BPWD) to develop, monitor and administer the City’s bridge reconstruction/replacement and emergency repair program. The 43 bridges vary in length and complexity and include simple, multiple and continuous spans, trusses, rigid frames, deck and through girders, arches and moveable bascule/swing configurations that are constructed of timber, stone masonry, concrete and steel. Many of these bridges, including all of the moveable bridges, were designed and operated for years as major transit and/or railroad facilities.

Elements of the Bridge Overview Program include:

• Emergency Inspection and Repair – BSC provides a full range of inspection and repair services to address immediate needs for bridges city-wide. Repairs have involved decks, stringers, fenders, and moveable components. BSC has also conducted demolition design and provided construction administration and inspection.
  
• Coordination and Agency Liaison - Overall management services BSC provides to the BPWD for the City’s bridge construction and rehabilitation program include liaison with MassHighway and other state and federal agencies with jurisdiction; coordination with consultant design program schedules; design of minor repair, or mitigation projects; and construction administration and inspection.
  
• Maintenance Program Planning - Additionally, BSC works with BPWD to develop its annual work program, including preparation of budgets, schedules and scope of services for bridges slated for rehabilitation or replacement.
