University of Massachusetts Studio Arts Building - Amherst, MA

BSC Group provided site design to support Gund Partnership Architects for the design of a new Studio Arts Building at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as well as design of improvements to an adjacent parking lot. The new building will serve to consolidate many of the activities that now take place in multiple locations.

BSC’s role has been to develop site plans serving vehicular and pedestrian access and circulation, as well as parking, drop-off and deliveries. The site is located at a busy intersection of pedestrian walkways and well-traveled streets.

• Utilities Design - BSC’s site design included the relocation of a complex assortment of underground utilities to clear the building site. Affected utilities included steam, sewer, water, telecommunications and storm drainage.
  
• Traffic Improvements – BSC prepared alternative schemes for parking and access improvements for the building and the adjacent parking lot with the goal of improving vehicular flow, pedestrian safety and aesthetics in this area which is planned to be a focal point of activity related to the Arts Building.
