BSC Group provided integrated civil engineering, landscape architecture, environmental permitting and LEED-related services for the construction of a new training complex for the University of Connecticut’s Division I-A football team. The 165,000 sf, state-of-the-art training facility is the on-campus home of UConn’s football program, housing coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms, locker rooms, and other football-related facilities.

Working collaboratively with JCJ Architecture and HOK Sport + Venue + Event, BSC Group contributed solutions to promote the project’s success in receiving LEED certification by the United States Green Building Council. This project is both the first LEED-certified college athletic facility, as well as the University of Connecticut’s first LEED-certified facility. Important elements of BSC’s design include:

      • Low Impact Development – The site’s low impact stormwater management program includes biofiltration swales and rain gardens to naturally treat stormwater. These native plantings serve the combined purpose of managing surface water runoff while also providing an attractive site amenity.
      • Slope Stabilization – Surrounded by deep slopes on all sides, the site required slope stabilization to maintain structural integrity. BSC’s design included gravel base, sub-drains and native vegetation to secure the slope and provide aesthetic enhancements to the project.
