    • The Front Street District in Hartford will join the Connecticut Convention Center, The Marriott Hotel, and The Connecticut Center for Science and Exploration as the culminating element of the Adriaen’s Landing redevelopment in downtown Hartford. BSC Group is providing integrated design, permitting, and surveying services for this seven-acre mixed-use development, comprised of approximately 60,000 sf of retail space, 115 residential units, and a 325-space parking garage. Highlights of BSC’s design include:

      • Pedestrian-Friendly Design - BSC landscape architects are developing a pedestrian-friendly environment that will be a destination for visitors of the area; will serve as a “front door” of the residential property, providing opportunities for shopping, dinning, and entertainment; and will be a main pedestrian link for the new Convention Center and Main Street in Hartford. With these factors in mind, BSC is using a simple design that uses paving patterns to reflect the architecture of the building, provides flexibility for alfresco dining, generates interest with planters, and uses urban rain gardens to aid in stormwater management. Additionally, the use of pavers in the crosswalks and the addition of bump outs to narrow the pavement width will provide traffic calming measures to make this area pedestrian friendly.
      • Comprehensive Roadway and Traffic Improvements – BSC is preparing a traffic impact study to analyze the impacts of modifications to Front Street on traffic patterns on Columbus Boulevard, and to determine adequate traffic signal modifications. As part of the full depth reconstruction of Front Street as well as Constitution Way, BSC is designing new decorative sidewalks that meet current ADA standards, drainage improvements, and signing and pavement marking upgrades. Finally, BSC will work with the project team to optimize traffic circulation patterns within the development, evaluate surface parking layouts, and assess traffic signal timing in proximity to the development to optimize vehicular movements.
