    • Proactive communication with project regulators helped the project to meet permit requirements within four months.

    • BSC Group provided integrated site planning and design services for the construction of a large biotechnology research facility on a 225-acre parcel on the Hingham/Rockland line. The project involved design, permitting, landscape architecture and roadway design associated with permitting and construction document preparation for the 200,000 sf office headquarters and laboratory facility.

The site’s location within two municipalities, as well as within multiple MassHighway and Department of Environmental Protection districts required an effective collaboration process and comprehensive permitting strategy to complete the entire permitting process in four months. Elements of BSC’s successful approach included:

      • Local Coordination – Development of the site affected two municipalities with differing regulatory environments, and BSC’s project team worked with representatives from both communities to achieve approvals. This local coordination was complemented by proactive communication with state regulators from the project’s outset.

      • Traffic Mitigation – BSC the facility would generate increased traffic demands on the local roadways and Route 3, BSC planned and designed roadway improvements to accommodate increased volume. Mitigation efforts involved a traffic study of several nearby intersections to forecast potential impacts. BSC then designed a new traffic signal at the intersection of Commerce Road and Hingham Street, as well as the widening of portions of Hingham Street.
