Boston Children's Museum - Boston, MA

BSC Group provided civil engineering and traffic management services for the redevelopment and 20,000 sf expansion of Boston Children’s Museum. Working with project manager Leggat McCall and architect Cambridge Seven Associates, BSC provided creative and innovative site design, including stormwater, underground utilities, and vehicular access and parking. Essential to the project was the desire to integrate green design principles that would complement the educational mission for this exciting waterfront redevelopment. Special project features include:

• Encouraging the Use of Public Transportation – BSC’s traffic engineers evaluated the impact of the expansion on the adjacent pedestrian infrastructure, which included a projection of future pedestrian trips. BSC’s study reviewed the project’s context within the adjacent pedestrian infrastructure and identified measures to maximize the use of public transportation options.
  
  
• Earning State Funding – BSC assisted the museum in preparing the technical aspects of a Section 319 Non-Point Source Pollution Control Grant application that resulted in $500,000 in funding from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection pollution prevention program. BSC subsequently designed the stormwater collection, preliminary treatment, and storage systems funded by the grant.
