Project Manager/Team Lead: Ecological Sciences & Licensing and Permitting


BSC Group, an interdisciplinary environmental consulting company, is seeking a qualified, energetic, and motivated individual for our Worcester office and the NH area.  The selected candidate will have a passion for consulting and advising, technical excellence, an ability to contribute to productive and dynamic teamwork, have leadership skills, a commitment to lifelong learning and growth, and have a desire to build a long and rewarding career with the BSC.  Successful candidate must be able to work as a team member or as a team leader, depending on project needs.As a project manager/team lead, the ideal candidate is expected to have experience managing ecological and licensing and permitting projects in New England, as well as leading/mentoring technical teams in these disciplines. Responsibilities will include coordination with the Group Manager and Business Unit Leader managing the successful delivery of client work, project-centric operations, and personnel. In addition, the successful candidate should have the passion and experience to work collaboratively with multidisciplanry teams on projects and staffing. When managing projects, the individual will be responsible for assisting in regulatory approach/strategy and providing technical review/QA/QC for a variety of projects. Successful candidates should be strong in technical writing, communication skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure/aggressive client schedules.Some responsibilities are as follows:Project Management

  • Ideally 6-10 years professional experience in water resources/wetland science/ecology/natural resources and regulation.
  • BS in environmental/biological sciences/natural resources/hydrology, or related field, with wetland delineation, impact assessment, and regulatory experience. MS a plus.
  • Experience with local, state (MA, CT, NH, RI) and federal wetland, rare species, and stormwater permitting programs.  Linear permitting experience a plus.
  • Experience with NPDES permit programs and ability to conduct and mentor staff in compliance monitoring.  Experience with innovative BMPs a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Including: ability to produce well-written reports and regulatory compliance documents; public hearing/presentation experience; ability to interact successfully with regulatory personnel and internal teams.
  • Experience preparing proposals: understand project scope and evaluating necessary levels of effort to complete certain tasks.
  • Experience in coastal science, wildlife, fisheries, or related disciplines a plus.
  • The preferred candidate will be certified in their area of expertise (e.g. PWS, NH CWC, CPESC, CESSWI).

Project Delivery/Team Leadership

  • Mentoring and developing junior scientists and regulatory specialists.  Assisting teams in finding work/life balance in a challenging work environment and supporting career development.
  • Manage execution of project and task assignments for all direct reports; coordination with the Ecological group for work sharing and project assignments.
  • Effectively manage client expectations across active client work; training and mentoring staff on client standards and deliverables.
  • Directly manage/mentor junior scientists and regulatory specialists team members in the delivery of client work and in alignment with established production metrics.
  • Communicate and work closely with direct reports and Group Managers to continuously improve project approaches and outcomes as well as an individual’s overall performance.
  • Work with the Group Managers to provide regular verbal and written feedback to direct reports, celebrating successes and clearly defining any misalignments with expectations.
  •  Perform weekly timesheet reviews for all direct reports
  • Monitor billable performance for all production personnel and collaborate with Group Managers and Business Unit Leader
