Executive Vice President: National Transportation for Suffolk Construction

Sam is responsible for leading Suffolk’s operations in the transportation sector and driving business development for aviation, port, and transit projects nationally. He has over 35 years of extensive experience in the design and construction industry. From October 1993 to Dec 2020, he was at the Massachusetts Port Authority where he held several positions, most recently as the Director of Capital Programs and Environmental Affairs. As the head of Capital Programs, he directed the overall management of the Authority’s capital investment program, safety program, utilities management, in-house project design and environmental permitting and management.

He is a past chair for the CMAA National Board and a member of Northeastern University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Industrial Advisory Board.

Sam received an honorary doctorate of Engineering degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2018 and was also awarded the 2018 National Person of the Year by CMAA. Sam was inducted to the CMAA’s College of Fellows in 2017, and the National Academy of Construction (NAC) in 2016. He was elected as a member of “The Moles,” the most prestigious organization in the heavy construction industry in 2020. He was named one of Engineering News Record’s (ENR) Top 25 Newsmakers of 2009. Sam is an active member of the following national organizations: American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and local chapters BSCE and CMAA-NE.

Sam holds both a Master and Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University.
