Natural Resource Infrastructure Assessments
Through Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) grants, BSC worked with municipal staff and community leaders in Amesbury, Bolton, Harvard, Devens, and Georgetown to evaluate opportunities for Nature-based Solutions (NbS) within their communities. Bolton, Harvard, and Devens worked together as part of a regional assessment. Our GIS services created a series of ecological climate resilience maps utilizing web-based mapping tools which were used to guide community discussions. Site walks were conducted to identify opportunities to reduce risk and vulnerability to climate change and increase resilience by implementing NbS. BSC’s interdisciplinary team, including an ecological scientist, a professional engineer, and a landscape architect, developed a unique report format providing site specific and prioritized assessments and lists of nature-based climate resilience solutions and preliminary project scopes and costs for each identified opportunity, as well as discussion of larger scale climate vulnerabilities and resilient responses. The maps and reporting tools allow the communities to understand and prioritize nature-based climate resilience opportunities across their communities, and to be prepared to respond to funding opportunities efficiently to put projects into action.
