Town of Salisbury Salisbury, MA

Salisbury Coastal Resilience Planning Project

The Town of Salisbury faces growing coastal flooding risks from sea level rise, storm surge, and limited tidal flow in the Great Marsh. Key access roads to Salisbury Beach, including Beach Road, Old County Road, and State Reservation Road, are frequently overtopped, disrupting residents, businesses, and emergency services. To address these challenges, the Town initiated a comprehensive resilience assessment.

Through the Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Program, BSC conducted a data-driven study to better understand flooding dynamics and support future resilience investments. The project focused on the interconnected causes of flooding, including ocean impacts and restricted marsh drainage caused by undersized, aging culverts, requiring an integrated, system-wide analysis.
