On August 16, 2010, the Town of East Hartford, CT held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new 16,000 sf Brewer Street Fire Station. BSC Group has provided a variety of planning and design services for the new station, including stormwater management, site utilities, landscape architecture, and emergency traffic control technology.
The project is seeking LEED certification, and BSC has suggested and designed a number of strategies to support this goal, including rain gardens, biofiltration swales, zero-irrigation landsacping, and landscaping to reduce solar heat gain. BSC has also recommended an innovative system that will harvest and reuse stormwater for fire pump testing and vehicle washing.
Now that the project is under construction, BSC will continue to be involved with construction phase services, such as submittal review, site visits, and related documentation.
