Leading Together: BSC President Lee Curtis Joins Bat Survey Fieldwork

At BSC Group, leadership isn’t confined to a title - or an office. It’s something we practice side-by-side, in the field, and in real time.

Recently, President Lee Curtis demonstrated that commitment by joining BSC’s ecology team on a pair of bat survey site visits: first at a MassDOT project site in Granby, MA, and later at the Ashby Wildlife Management Area. These surveys are a critical part of our ecological services, helping clients meet environmental permitting requirements while protecting Massachusetts’ native bat species.

But this wasn’t just a leadership visit - it was a learning opportunity. Lee spent the day setting up acoustic bat detectors, observing field protocols, and discussing survey methodologies directly with BSC ecologists who carry out this work every day. The experience reflected one of BSC’s core values: leadership through humility, curiosity, and action.

“One of the most important things I’ve learned on my leadership journey is the value of staying true to who you are,” said Lee. “Over dinner with the team, I shared how following your passions, trusting your instincts, and showing up as your authentic self are not just welcomed at BSC - they’re essential. There’s always a place here for people who lead with integrity and purpose.”

Empowering Leadership at Every Level

At BSC, we believe everyone leads from where they are. Whether you're deploying monitoring equipment in the woods or shaping project strategy in a meeting room, leadership means asking smart questions, listening deeply, and honoring the expertise of others.

“Spending time in the field reminded me that some of the most impactful leadership moments don’t happen in a conference room—they happen when you listen, observe, and truly understand the work your team is doing,” said Lee. “It’s in those moments that trust is built, insights are shared, and real connection happens. That’s the kind of leadership we value at BSC.”

Lee’s time in the field wasn’t just symbolic, it was a meaningful reflection of the culture we strive to build: one where leaders roll up their sleeves, respect the technical knowledge of their teams, and work shoulder to shoulder toward shared goals.

We’re proud of our people and the purpose that drives us. From environmental compliance to wildlife protection, from mentoring young professionals to learning from seasoned experts, BSC leads together.
