Belmont Street/Trapelo Road Reconstruction

BSC completed a comprehensive corridor study and reconstruction design for a two-mile arterial in Belmont. The project involved extensive review of traffic and pavement conditions, trackless trolley operations, and improvements to pedestrian safety, bicycle accommodations, and roadway and streetscape design. BSC worked closely with the Town to identify design deficiencies within the corridor, and as a result, designed typical cross sections consisting of two 14-foot travel lanes with five-foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. The project involved an extensive public participation process including presentations to the Town’s Traffic Advisory Committee. This resulted in town-wide support for the preferred design alternative that was advanced to final design for MassDOT funding.

The project was recognized with an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies.
