Washington Avenue Reconstruction
BSC Group designed roadway, infrastructure, streetscape improvements, and survey services to the Washington Avenue corridor, a heavily traveled roadway extending from the Revere Beach Parkway to the Chelsea City Hall area. The corridor passes through several key intersections that were targeted for pedestrian and vehicular safety improvements. In response, crosswalks, geometric improvements, and traffic islands were designed to help reduce open areas and provide safe refuge for pedestrians while also channeling vehicles efficiently through the intersections. Pedestrian ways were further enhanced through the use of MAAB/ADA compliant ramps, crosswalks, and sidewalks, which replaced aging, worn, and heaving sections of the corridor. All roadway and traffic improvements considered MBTA bus routes that traverse the corridor in a high public transportation demand area.
