MassDEP No Net Loss of Wetland Carbon

BSC led a multidisciplinary team to support the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection in advancing strategies to achieve No Net Loss of Wetland Carbon and meet goals in the Massachusetts Clean Energy and Climate Plan for 2025 and 2030.

Working with Regenerative Design Group, Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, and Woodwell Climate Research Center, the team evaluated policies and bylaws across Massachusetts, the U.S., and internationally.

BSC developed wetland carbon protection and restoration strategies, regulatory recommendations, and concepts for an interactive carbon accounting tool. Supporting this work, Woodwell advanced science-based accounting methods, while Regenerative Design Group applied machine learning to map previously unidentified wetlands.

The final report is currently under review by MassDEP.
