Brunswick Nature Park Receives Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Award

The Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Award Program recognized Nature Park in Brunsick County, NC for its achievement in protecting water quality, preserving open space, utilizing green building and stormwater practices, and educating the public. BSC Group provided master planning, landscape architecture, and environmental permitting services for the project.

Nature Park is a 911-acre waterfront park located on Town Creek. BSC Group prepared a master plan to improve the park and create a linkage to the nearby Whitlock Landing park area. BSC then designed the park improvements, including passive recreation trails for horseback riding, biking and walking; a canoe/kayak landing; an environmental center; and a bird-watching site. Additional amenities include picnic shelters, restrooms, a gravel access road, and parking lots.

The Fifth Annual Lower Cape Fear Stewardship Development Awards were presented at a banquet on November 19, 2009. The Nature Park project received a Special Recognition Award, based on the judging panel’s assessment of criteria that included water quality protection, wetland preservation, and natural project amenities.
