BSC Earns Merit Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Connecticut

BSC Group Connecticut received a Merit Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Connecticut’s (ACEC/CT) Engineering Excellence Awards for the Silver Sands / Walnut Beach Boardwalk project in Milford, CT. The annual award recognizes engineering excellence and honors distinctive projects that promote exceptional client service; social, economic or sustainable benefits; and originality and complexity of design.

The project Silver Sands State Park involved providing civil engineering, landscape architecture, and environmental permitting services to the Connecticut Department of Public Works for the planning and design of the extension of the park’s existing boardwalk as well as the construction of a new boardwalk at the City of Milford’s Walnut Beach. The new boardwalk totals approximately 3,800 feet, currently the longest continuous boardwalk in Connecticut. BSC’s project approach considered such factors as sustainable and cost-effective materials selection, pedestrian accessibility and ADA compliance, waterfront structure integrity, and the protection of sensitive wetlands and dune habitats.

Kurt Prochorena, PE, LEP, LEED AP Director of Operations in BSC’s Connecticut office accepted the award at the 2012 ACEC/CT Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in January, and the project will be exhibited at the ACEC/CT office and around the state at various events throughout 2012, including the Engineers Week dinner meeting in February. Additionally, photos of each project will be displayed on the ACEC/CT web site (www.ctengineers.org).
