BSC Group Creates Field Guide for MassDOT Highway Division

As part of BSC’s on-call contract with MassDOT’s Highway Division, BSC recently completed an Erosions & Sedimentation Control Field Guide for the Highway Division’s Construction Office. In addition to the field guide, BSC prepared and organized a permit book for contractor use for the Ken Burns Bridge in Worcester/Shrewsbury. BSC Group worked closely with MassDOT’s Manager of Environmental Compliance for Construction, to provide content, design, and images for the guide.

The field guide was designed to be a hands-on, easily referenced guide for engineers and crews working on roadway and bridge construction, reconstruction, or maintenance and includes a matrix of Best Management Practices (BMPs) for certain practices/goals, photo documentation, and general instructions. Additionally the guide provides different recommendations for runoff, erosion, and sediment control, as well as the benefits and limitations of each specific recommendation. The field guide concludes with tips for good housekeeping and general operations, as well as a list of commonly used acronyms and abbreviations.
