BSC Group Project Recognized for Boston Society of Landscape Architects Award

Every year, The Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA) announces the recipients to their highly regarded awards program that recognizes the accomplishments of landscape architects and landscape architectural work in both Massachusetts and Maine. This year we are pleased to announce that alongside Richard Burck Associates, BSC Group has been recognized for its collaboration on The Watch Factory in Waltham, MA. BSC’s efforts on The Watch Factory has granted them recognition for the 2014 Merit Award for Historic Rehabilitation.

The Watch Factory is a historic mill complex located on the Charles River in Waltham, MA and operated as a watch manufacturing factory until the 1950’s. In 2007, a three-phase redevelopment started and transformed the run-down mill into a modern multi-use development, consisting of 400,000 square feet of office, residential, and retail space. Services provided by BSC Group included civil/site engineering, stormwater management, traffic engineering, land surveying, and permitting. BSC worked closely with the Waltham Conservation Commission and Charles River Watershed Association to monitor and address water quality issues, especially in regards to stormwater runoff from the site. Tactics that BSC implemented to naturally treat stormwater included the use of porous pavement, rain gardens, and crushed stone infiltration trenches.
