BSC Group has initiated a feasibility study for the conversion of an existing abandoned railbed into a multimodal pathway in the East Forest Park area of the City of Springfield.
The feasibility study will investigate options to increase safety for all users, particularly at points where the trail network crosses busy roadways, considering the existing sidewalk network, crosswalks and signal equipment. Other study elements will include potential wetlands in the area, right-of-way and access challenges, environmental and potential contamination issues, and safety concerns for all trail users. The information in Springfield’s study will provide a comprehensive plan for the rail corridor to generate interest and build consensus within the local community, as well as to obtain funding support to implement future project phases.
