As president of the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS), our very own Gillian Davies attended and presented at the 2016 International Wetland Convention in Taiwan. Gillian received awards for Exemplary Achievements in Wetlands Fields and the title of Taiwan’s Wetland Conservation Honorable Advisor. Gillian gave opening remarks for the convention, attended by 450 plus leaders in the industry, and was a keynote speaker presenting on the topic of “Protecting and Regulating Wetlands in Massachusetts, a First-in-the-Nation Case Study.” Among her many achievements, most notable was Gillian’s participation, on behalf of SWS, in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Taiwan Construction and Planning Agency (CPA) and SWS. The conference also provided the setting for the important signing of an unprecedented agreement between Taiwanese ministries to work together to protect wetlands.
