Historical Shoreline Mapping Project Earns ACEC Gold

BSC Group’s historical shoreline mapping project has earned the Gold Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts. The annual Engineering Excellence Awards recognize innovation in the industry, as well as efforts to enhance the public’s awareness of engineering’s role in our society.

The award, presented at ACEC’s annual dinner on March 25, 2009, highlighted the importance of the project in creating a single, defensible source of shoreline mapping data that will be used to protect the public’s access to the Commonwealth’s waterfront.

Important project elements included research of more than 2,600 historical maps; mapping of 1,400 miles of Massachusetts coastline; and creation of an on-line searchable GIS database. The project was hailed for marrying historical mapping data with state-of-the-art technology and represented an important integration of BSC Group’s and Geonetics’s expertise.
