Ingeborg Hegemann Elected Chairman of BSC Companies Board of Directors

BSC Companies is pleased to announce Ingeborg E. Hegemann, PWS, has been elected chairman of the firm’s board of directors, culminating a career of more than 40 years in the architectural/engineering consulting industry.

Hegemann is an environmental scientist, specializing in wetland ecology. In addition to her work for such clients as the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, numerous private sector clients, municipalities, and energy utilities, Hegemann leads BSC Group’s services practice, emphasizing technical excellence in all aspects of the firm’s work. Her professional accomplishments have included service on state-level advisory committees guiding the application of environmental regulations such as the Rivers and Wetlands Protection Acts. She was the president of the Society for Wetland Scientists Professional Certification Committee, and is currently on the Certification Review Panel involved in the review and approval of Professional Wetland Scientists.

Outside of her work at BSC Group, Hegemann is a member of the Town of Stow’s conservation commission and board of selectmen. She also serves as a board member of OARS, the local watershed association, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts/Lowell, teaching graduate level wetland ecology.

“Having spent nearly all of my career at BSC Group, it’s a great honor to chair the firm’s board of directors,” said Hegemann. “I began working at BSC shortly after graduate school and as the firm grew, the leadership gave me every opportunity to grow along with it, to be innovative, and to lead. Looking ahead to my new role, I hope to build on the firm’s history of client-focused and collaborative culture, and facilitate a mindset of growth grounded in technical excellence and innovation.”

“Ingeborg is a true talent. This achievement is well deserved and an important milestone,” said Sean O’Brien, PE, President and CEO of BSC Companies. “Having a woman, and scientist as opposed to an engineer, chair our Board is a break from tradition for our firm and for the A/E industry in general. It’s exciting that BSC is advancing this positive change and is consistent with our commitment to diversity of all types.”
