BSC Group will support the New York State Department of Transportation in developing a data-driven toolkit to help improve human safety, landscape connectivity, and wildlife movement across New York State.
The work will focus on identifying priority roadway locations where wildlife-vehicle collision reduction and habitat connectivity improvements can have the greatest impact.
Working with partner, Wildlife Connectivity Institute, BSC will apply crash, transportation, and ecological data within an ESRI ArcGIS environment to analyze where safety and connectivity priorities overlap. The resulting toolkit will include interactive GIS-based products and supporting procedures designed to help inform transportation planning and decision-making statewide.
This effort reflects the BSC Team’s strength at the intersection of ecological science, GIS, and infrastructure planning. It also builds on the team’s experience delivering similar wildlife-transportation planning and mapping tools for agencies in Massachusetts and other states.
