This week marks the end of an era. Marie Hassanova, PLS is retiring after an impressive 51-year career in the field of Land Surveying!
Marie’s career is marked by her Boston-specific expertise in land surveying within all City districts, her thorough knowledge of various sources of information needed to re-establish street lines, including City field notes, Boston Board of Survey calculations, and Land Court plans, as well as her in-depth understanding of various surveying conventions that are unique to Boston.
Notably, Marie’s career included working on the Central Artery/Tunnel Project aka “the Big Dig” where she served as a lead surveyor for the monumentation and survey control portion of the project. She then transitioned back to the private sector and handled countless ALTA surveys, MassDOT right-of-way retracements, and served as the resident boundary expert for metro-Boston projects.
One of the two longest-standing employees at the firm (see Marie in the bottom left photo with long-time BSCer Mary Rieves), Marie continues to serve as a strong role model for junior women surveyors working in a male dominated field. During her time at BSC, Marie helped create a company culture that values work/life balance, always made herself available whenever needed, and formed lasting relationships with all of her coworkers and clients.
We would like to extend a well-deserved THANK YOU to Marie for 45 years of service to BSC Group. We wish you a joyful and relaxing retirement. Marie, you will be missed!!
