BSC is Shining a Spotlight on Melissa Kaplan, PWS

Meet Melissa.

In 2023, Melissa became BSC’s Licensing and Permitting Subject Matter Area Team Lead. Since then, she has spearheaded various projects and is working with BSC’s permitting experts to help ensure BSC remains at the top of all things licensing and permitting.

Melissa leads this team of experts to provide:

  • Mentorship in licensing and permitting amongst BSC staff.
  • Development of policies, procedures and templates for BSC licensing and permitting staff.
  • Development of resources for our staff, such as guides, keys, typical permitting timeline tables, and other various training materials.
  • Reviews of proposed regulatory and policy changes throughout New England including developing comment letters and providing guidance to clients.
  • Coordinates participation of the Subject Matter Experts in agency briefings and trainings to gather information for our clients and internal staff.
  • Serves on the board and as Membership Chair of the Connecticut Power & Energy Society and is an active member of:
    – Connecticut Association of Wetland Scientists
    – Environmental Business Council of New England and Connecticut
    – Association of Massachusetts Wetland Scientists
    – Connecticut Society for Women Environmental Professionals
    – Native Plant Trust, PCV Program Rare Plant Volunteer Surveyor

 

Melissa’s favorite project is the Atlantic White Cedar Mitigation Project for Eversource Energy’s Eastern Connecticut Reliability 400/500 Lines Rebuild. This involved mitigation efforts to offset the impacts of the construction for a complete line rebuild.
